Key events of the Horus Heresy
- Unification Wars (M30, vor 798). The Emperor unites fractured Terra with his Thunder Warriors and the first Custodes. The alliance with Mars secures the Mechanicum's might for the coming crusade.
- The Great Crusade (798–999.M30). With the Space Marine Legions, the Imperium sets out to reclaim humanity's lost worlds. One by one the Emperor finds his scattered sons and places them at the head of their Legions.
- The Lion on Caliban (~836–970.M30). On the forest world of Caliban, Lion El'Jonson hunts the beasts alongside Luther and the knightly order. When the Imperium arrives, the Lion becomes primarch of the Dark Angels – and Luther remains in his shadow.
- Quarrel on Dulan (~870.M30). During the campaign against the tyrant of Dulan, Leman Russ and Lion El'Jonson come to blows. The duel between the two primarchs strains their Legions for a long time.
- Angron Is Found (~899.M30). The Emperor tears Angron out of the final battle of his slave revolt on Nuceria – his companions die without him. Angron takes command of the War Hounds, henceforth the World Eaters.
- The Censure of Monarchia (956.M30). Because the Word Bearers worship him as a god, the Emperor has the Ultramarines destroy their perfect city of Monarchia. The humiliated Legion kneels in the ashes – and Lorgar seeks other gods.
- Curze Attacks Dorn (984.M30). Konrad Curze foresees the coming betrayal and his own death in visions. After a quarrel he attacks Rogal Dorn – an early sign of how deep the rifts between the brothers run.
- Triumph of Ullanor (000.M31). After victory over the greatest ork empire, the Emperor names Horus Warmaster and returns to Terra. Command of the crusade passes to Horus, its administration to the Council of Terra.
- The Nurthene War (001.M31). The Alpha Legion and the Imperial Army fight an enigmatic foe on Nurth. Agent John Grammaticus delivers the Cabal's message to Alpharius: a victory for Horus is the lesser evil.
- Horus' First Campaign as Warmaster (002–003.M31). On 63-19 a false emperor is unmasked and Hastur Sejanus falls. Garviel Loken joins the Mournival, and remembrancers record the crusade in word and image.
- Council of Nikaea (~003.M31). The Emperor convenes a council on psykers within the Legions. Magnus defends sorcery, Russ and Mortarion oppose it – the verdict disbands the Librarius.
- The Sword of Laer (~003–004.M31). Purging the xenos world of Laer, the Emperor's Children storm a temple. There Fulgrim claims a sword that houses a daemon – the beginning of his fall.
- Horus Falls on Davin (004.M31). On Davin's moon a Chaos blade wounds the Warmaster. Healed by a warrior lodge, he is shown a future in which the Emperor betrays him – and Horus turns away.
- Magnus' Warning (004.M31). Magnus discovers Horus' treachery and warns the Emperor with a mighty spell. The message shatters the wards beneath the Palace – the secret Webway project is lost and daemons pour in.
- The War in the Webway (004–014.M31). Beneath Terra, Custodes, Sisters of Silence and the Mechanicum defend the Webway against daemon hosts. For years the Emperor wages a war there that the surface barely suspects.
- The Burning of Prospero (004–005.M31). Leman Russ is sent to bring Magnus to Terra, but the order becomes a punitive strike. Space Wolves, Custodes and Sisters of Silence ravage Tizca; Magnus saves the rest of his Legion with a pact that takes them into the warp.
- The Outcasts of Terra (004–005.M31). The astropath Kai Zulane carries a dangerous vision. With escaped legionaries from traitor Legions he breaks out of the Palace dungeons, hunted by the Custodes.
- The White Scars on Chondax (005–007.M31). Far away on Chondax, the Khan learns of Horus' treachery late, as the Alpha Legion jams communications. Lodges and loyalists struggle for the Legion until Jaghatai chooses the Emperor in combat with Leman Russ.
- Schism of Mars (005.M31). Fabricator General Kelbor-Hal sides with Horus. Loyal and renegade forges wage war, Titans fight on the Red Planet, and Mars falls to the Dark Mechanicum.
- Virus Bombing of Isstvan III (005.M31). Horus sends the loyal warriors of four Legions to Isstvan III and bombards them with virus weapons. Loken, Tarvitz and the survivors resist until the traitors overrun them – the civil war is out in the open.
- Flight of the Eisenstein (005.M31). Nathaniel Garro escapes with the frigate Eisenstein and a handful of loyalists. After an odyssey through the warp he brings Rogal Dorn and Malcador word of the betrayal.
- Defence of Diamat (005.M31). Lion El'Jonson protects the forge world of Diamat, whose armouries Horus covets. The Dark Angels hold the world, but their Legion is widely scattered.
- Luther's Revolt on Caliban (005–011.M31). On Caliban, resentment grows among the warriors left behind under Luther. Zahariel uncovers the conspiracy – but in the end it will split the Dark Angels.
- The Signus Campaign (005–006.M31). Horus sends the Blood Angels into the Signus Cluster, where the Word Bearers have prepared a daemonic trap. In the fight against the Bloodthirster Ka'Bandha, the Legion's hidden curse breaks free.
- Drop Site Massacre (Isstvan V) (006.M31). Seven Legions make planetfall to confront Horus – four of them have long since changed sides. In the Urgall Depression the Iron Hands, Salamanders and Raven Guard are ground down, and Fulgrim kills Ferrus Manus.
- War of the Shattered Legions (006–013.M31). The survivors of Isstvan V gather under Shadrak Meduson into scattered battle groups. With raids and sabotage they wage a guerrilla war against the traitors.
- Vulkan's Captivity (006–007.M31). Konrad Curze holds Vulkan captive and kills him again and again – yet the primarch returns every time. Behind his immortality lies a secret that also interests the Cabal.
- Battle of Phall (006.M31). An Imperial Fists fleet brings the Iron Warriors to battle in the Phall system. The void war becomes a symbol of the bitter enmity between the VII and IV Legions.
- The Raptor Project (007–010.M31). Corax receives genetic knowledge from the Emperor to rebuild the Raven Guard. But the Alpha Legion has infiltrated the Legion – the rescue attempt spawns the disfigured Raptors.

- Battle of Calth (007.M31). The Word Bearers arrive at Calth as allies – and open fire without warning. Guilliman strikes back, but the price is immense: the star Veridia is poisoned, leaving the surface uninhabitable.
- The Ruinstorm (007–011.M31). Bloody Word Bearers rituals unleash a warp storm that cuts off the eastern galaxy. Ultramar is isolated, the Astronomican barely visible.
- The Underworld War on Calth (007–014.M31). Beneath the scorched surface, Ultramarines and Word Bearers fight on for years in the arcologies – a war in the dark that ends long after the battle.
- Fulgrim's Ascension on Iydris (007.M31). Fulgrim lures Perturabo into the Eye of Terror with the promise of an eldar weapon. On Iydris, Fulgrim's true goal is fulfilled: he becomes a daemon prince.
- The Shadow Crusade (007–008.M31). Lorgar and Angron ravage Ultramar to tie down Guilliman. As world after world burns, the Butcher's Nails eat further into Angron.
- Angron's Ascension on Nuceria (008.M31). On his home world of Nuceria, Lorgar raises the dying Angron as a daemon prince of Khorne. Guilliman arrives too late and confronts Lorgar in single combat.
- The Thramas Crusade (007–009.M31). The Dark Angels and Night Lords wage a years-long war of annihilation in the Thramas Sector. In the end the Lion gravely wounds Konrad Curze, and Sevatar leads the Night Lords.
- The Cataclysm of Iron (005–015.M31). In the Belt of Iron, loyal and renegade Titan Legions fight over forge worlds for more than a decade. In the end the loyalists prevail.
- Battle of Molech (008–009.M31). Horus attacks the fortress world of Molech, where the Emperor once found a gateway into the warp. Titans, Knight houses and the Knights-Errant stand against him – but House Devine betrays the defenders, and Horus passes through the gate.
- Imperium Secundus (009.M31). Believing Terra has fallen, Guilliman founds a second Imperium on Macragge. Sanguinius is proclaimed its ruler, the Lion its protector – and Curze slips into the fortress, murdering as he goes.
- The Beacon of Sotha (009.M31). The Pharos on Sotha, an ancient xenos machine, lights the way through the Ruinstorm. The Night Lords attack the world to put out the light.
- The Journey to Nocturne (010.M31). Artellus Numeon believes Vulkan will rise again on his home world. The Salamanders carry their primarch's body through the Ruinstorm to Nocturne.
- Battle of Tallarn (010–011.M31). The Iron Warriors poison Tallarn with virus bombs. On the dead world, loyalists and traitors fight the greatest tank battle of the Heresy in steel colossi.
- The Alpha Legion Strikes Sol (010.M31). The Alpha Legion strikes covertly in the Sol System. Rogal Dorn realises how vulnerable Terra's defences are and reorganises them.
- The White Scars Return (011.M31). After years of cat-and-mouse war against the Emperor's Children and the Death Guard, the White Scars break through the warp towards Terra.
- Hunt for Curze, End of Imperium Secundus (011.M31). The Lion hunts Konrad Curze through Ultramar while Luther's plans ripen on Caliban. When it becomes clear that Terra still stands, Imperium Secundus falls apart.
- Vulkan's Road to Terra (011.M31). The reawakened Vulkan travels through a broken Imperium to Terra and explores the roots of his immortality.
- Through the Ruinstorm (011.M31). Guilliman, Sanguinius and the Lion lead their fleets into the Ruinstorm to break its source and open the way to Terra.
- Russ Against Horus (012.M31). Leman Russ stakes everything on a direct attack on the Warmaster – and loses the duel. The Space Wolves are shattered and are absent from Terra's defence.
- Titandeath: Beta-Garmon (006–013.M31). The Beta-Garmon Cluster is the last gateway to the Sol System. After years of struggle, the largest Titan hosts of the Heresy collide here – whole Legions perish.
- Horus' Final Pact (013.M31). Horus gathers the traitor Legions for the strike on Terra and opens himself fully to the Chaos gods.
- Fall of the Death Guard (013.M31). Stranded in the warp, the Death Guard is consumed by a plague. Mortarion submits to Nurgle, and his Legion becomes a pestilence.
- Garro and the Grey Knights (013–014.M31). Malcador gives Nathaniel Garro his final mission. From the Knights-Errant grows the core of an order that will one day be called the Grey Knights.
- The Solar War (014.M31). Horus' fleets break into the Sol System. World by world, Rogal Dorn's void defences fall until Terra lies open.
- Landfall on Terra (014.M31). The traitor hosts make landfall. Plague, bloodlust and bombardment strike the Palace while Rogal Dorn holds his defences wall by wall.
- Fall of the Lion's Gate (014.M31). Perturabo storms the Lion's Gate spaceport in a pincer assault and takes it after costly fighting. Dorn and Perturabo come face to face without crossing blades.
- The Saturnine Trap (014.M31). Dorn breaks the mass assault on the Saturnine Gate while strike teams hit the Sons of Horus underground. Loken nearly kills Abaddon, Dorn nearly kills Fulgrim – and the Eternity Wall spaceport is sacrificed.
- Magnus Comes to Terra (014.M31). Magnus appears on Terra to settle his account with the Emperor. With him, the power of the warp seeps into the Palace.
- Titan Battle at the Mercury Wall (014.M31). Legio Mortis and Legio Ignatum, ancient rivals, tear each other apart before the Mercury Wall. Horus relieves Perturabo; with the Imperator Titan Dies Irae the traitors break into the inner Palace.
- The Khan's Sally (014.M31). Jaghatai Khan leads the counter-attack to retake the Lion's Gate spaceport. In a duel with the daemon prince Mortarion the Khan seemingly falls – but Mortarion is banished.
- Sanguinius' Last Stand (014.M31). Before the Sanctum Imperialis, Sanguinius and the remnants of the Blood Angels hold the last wall against daemon hosts and the daemon prince Angron.
- The Emperor Boards (014.M31). The Vengeful Spirit's shields fall. The Emperor teleports aboard Horus' flagship with his most loyal to end the war himself.
- Death of Sanguinius (014.M31). Sanguinius reaches Horus first and faces him alone. The Angel dies at his brother's hand.
- Death of Horus (014.M31). In the duel between father and son, the Emperor is mortally wounded – and destroys Horus utterly. With the Warmaster's death the assault collapses.
- The Golden Throne (014.M31). Rogal Dorn recovers the dying Emperor. He is placed upon the Golden Throne, which keeps him alive from then on – the end of the Heresy.
- The Great Scouring (ab 015.M31). The loyalists drive the traitor Legions back until they flee into the Eye of Terror. The Imperium begins to rebuild from the ruins.
